Bristol is one of the largest cities in the south, with over 400,000 residents, so a local locksmith has his work cut out to meet demand.
The first thing to check is whether you really need a locksmith to come out. Often, if your key won’t turn, a little spray of WD-40 might be enough to loosen up the jammed pins and allow you to gain access again.
However, sometimes you will get locked out. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us (we know of one locksmith who had to let the same person into their own home three times in one day!), so don't be embarrassed if it happens to you.
Call us on 01179 323238 and we'll be right there.
According to Avon and Somerset police, there were 4,389 burglaries in Bristol from 2014 - 2015 [source], which is a pretty astonishing figure. Unfortunately crime is on the rise this year as well, but there are way to make your home a harder target.
The first thing to do is check your doors. Do they have windows in them? If so, then make sure the lock had a double cylinder which needs a key on the inside. If the door just has an ordinary deadbolt then all a burglar would have to do is smash the glass and reach through the hole to open the door.
If the door doesn't have a window, it's still worth checking that the deadbolt is properly installed. It should have at least a one-inch “throw,” and on the “strike side,” there should be a security plate with screws at least three inches long that go all the way into the door’s wooden frame.
We all make mistakes sometimes, and it's not that unusual to lose your car keys. When it happens, your first thought may be to call the auto dealer or the garage. Don't. Chances are we'll be able to do the same job as them for only half the cost.
Call us if you have any other key-related mishap too, like getting the key stuck in the ignition, which is something we've seen before, or if your door locks have been vandalised or otherwise damaged.

This is something we highly recommend not just for security but for general peace of mind, too. This is really the only way to know for sure that there isn't a master key somewhere out there which can open your doors.
Most people only really consider how to secure their exterior locks, but what about the locks which secure your valuables inside the house. This can be especially important if you live with other people. If you live in a dorm or share an apartment it's worth investing in a little extra security.
